Why Goat’s Milk Soap is best for Skin over 35
At 35, I began to notice something.
After struggling with seasonal and hormonal changes for years, and thinking I had my skincare routine under control, 35 was the age I started to realize I didn’t have it all figured out. Everything that had worked on my skin gradually became ineffective.
Hormonal skin is different, and if you are experiencing this shift like I was, I would like to invite you to try a very simple change in your skincare routine that is likely to make a big difference.
There is nothing complicated about this. Simply trade your synthetic soaps for something more natural, and this is why:
What Happens to Skin After 35?
For women, our mid 30’s is when our estrogen levels begin to fluctuate. Estrogen is the hormone that stimulates collagen production. Collagen is what our skin needs for elasticity, maintaining moisture, and overall, supporting our skin, which is our most basic barrier of protection from the outside world. Because of this, we notice:
Decreased natural oil production
Slower cell turnover
Increased sensitivity
Dry skin
Random hormonal breakouts
When I noticed the change in my skin, and began to do the research, I found something alarming about the traditional over the counter soaps I had been using.
The “soaps” aren’t actually soap.
Most commercial soaps are just synthetic detergents that contain:
Sulfates (skin irritation, dryness, allergic reactions)
Synthetic surfactants (lipid disruption)
Preservatives (generally safe but can cause irritations. Opt for natural preservatives. We use Vitamin E)
Fragrance blends that include phthalates (endocrine disruptors, aka…. hormone disruption)
Why Goat Milk Soap Is Different and a good choice for hormonal skin:
1. Naturally Gentle pH
Traditional cold process goats milk soap has a natural pH level between 5.5 and 6.7, which is closer to the acidic pH of human skin. Traditional soaps live around 9.5-11. This is why you may feel tightness after cleansing with many “commercial detergents” YUCK!
2. Rich in Lactic Acid
Goat milk contains natural lactic acid — a mild alpha hydroxy acid that helps to gently exfoliate dead skin and improve texture without harsh abrasion.
3. Deeply Nourishing Fats
While naturally after 35, we will have the dip in collagen production, it’s best to work with the skin, not against it. This means protecting that natural barrier as much as we can. Goat milk contains:
Caprylic acid (smoother texture)
Creamy triglycerides (reinforces skin’s natural barrier)
Natural vitamins A & D (rejuvenation)
But goats milk soap is so expensive…
look, I get it. These bars of soap are set at a much higher price than the drug store brand, but your skin is an investment.
If a cheaper bar of soap requires you to use more moisturizers (and more harmful chemicals) what is the cost?
Goat's Milk Body Bar: Jasmine & Cedar
If a cheaper bar of soap requires you to use more serums to counteract the oil imbalance caused by synthetic detergents, what is the cost?
If a cheaper bar of soap has even the smallest effects on your hormones, what is the cost?
I would like to invite you to try it for yourself. You can find all of my natural goats milk soap products here.
Give it a try, your skin will thank you.
